Dec. 2014 Senior Design Expo

The William States Lee held its December Senior Design Expo on Dec. 5, 2014. Project teams presented both their completed projects and their mid-project design posters. A photo gallery of the winners and the Expo is here.

The three completed projects judged to be the best were:

First Place – LIB SOUND, Sound Integration Into a Shower
Supporter – Liberty Hardware
Students – Christopher English, Elizabeth Hurtado Escobar, Galo Lopez, David Monts, Daniel Simoneaux
Mentor – Dr. Asis Nasipuri
Description – This device incorporates sound into a shower door. It is water resistant, runs on a rechargeable battery that lasts 6 hours between charges, and is blue tooth compatible.

 

 

Second Place – Second Place – RFMD PCBTR, Analysis and Design of PCB Traces for Cellular Frequencies
Supporter – RFMD Inc.
Students – Derrick Adams, Brett Cockerham, Mayangi Mvutu
Mentor – Dr. Maciej Noras
Description – In this project the students researched, analyzed and designed a printed circuit board that provides a reduction in signal loss for cellular frequencies by more than 10 percent.

 

 

Third Place – 2015 FSAE Car
Supporter – UNC Charlotte Motorsports
Students – Ryan Copping, Aaron Duran, Timothy Nifong, Nazarii Olkhovskyi
Mentor – Dr. Kent Day
Description – This project developed the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers vehicle that will be used in the May 2015 competition.  Simulation was used to optimize the suspension and powertrain.  The simulation was validated by actual track testing.

 

Providing students with an innovative, hands-on learning experience, the Industrial Senior Design Program at UNC Charlotte is educating engineering students, supporting industry partners and benefiting the State of North Carolina. The program teaches students how to apply their years of math, science, and engineering knowledge to solve the unique problems presented by many progressive North Carolina companies. The William States Lee College of Engineering encourages multi-disciplinary projects that involve engineering and technology solutions in the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, computer, systems, environmental and civil engineering.
