NCMARC visits Virginia Tech’s VIPER* and VTTI**: Professors George, Soliman, Tkacik, and Uddin visited VIPER on Jan 14^th where Drs. Soliman and Uddin gave a seminar with an overview of the Motorsports Program and Experimental Investigations on Racecar Spin-Aero Using Scale Model NASCAR COT respectively. The seminar was broadcasted from the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville to VT’s Blacksburg campus with more than 30 graduate students in attendance. The faculty met with VTTI’s Director Tom Dungis, National Tire Research Center’s Director Frank Della Pia, and Larry Fletcher GM’s Director of Global Vehicle Dynamics the group discussed the opportunities for collaboration between the centers. The host Dr. Steve Southward VIPER’s Director gave the UNC Charlotte faculty a tour of the facilities that houses a shock dyno, 8-post rig shaker, quarter car model and a driver simulator (seen in the photo) where Dr. Soliman drove an Audi R8 on the Monaco course with few spin outs and finally a crash in the wall luckily no one was injured.
