Motorsports Safety Test

As talked about in Motorsports Orientation this week, the Motorsports Safety test dates are shown below. You only have one chance to pass the test, which requires getting 4 or less questions wrong. The safety test is on material from MEGR 2299: Intro to Motorsports Engineering class, as well as the Alan Kulwicki Shop rules. Slides from MEGR229 and the shop rules can be found on the Downloadable Documents page on the Motorsports website.

Motorsports Orientation

We invite you to attend Motorsports Orientation on Monday, August 25th at 8:00pm in Duke Centennial Hall, Room 345.   All students are welcome to attend, and students that are in the Motorsports concentration must attend one of the two orientation sessions.  Upon completion of orientation, you will gain access to the Kulwicki Motorsports lab for the 2014 Fall semester.  This is a great opportunity to meet with our faculty and team leaders to ask questions, and become a member of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).

Herminso Villaraga-Gómez Wins the 2014 Carl Zeiss Scholarship

Herminso Villaraga-Gómez has been named the winner of the 2014 Carl Zeiss Student Scholarship. Mr. Villaraga-Gómez is an Optical Science and Engineering doctoral student, advised by Dr. Stuart Smith, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science.

UNCC Lab Manger in Victory Lane

The famous number 43 car of Richard Petty Motorsports returned to victory lane last Sunday in the Coke Zero 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona. The last time the number 43 car was in victory lane was 15 years ago, and it was also 30 years to the weekend that Richard Petty won his 200th race. Amongst all that, one of UNC Charlotte's Motorsports lab managers (Kile Stinson) was in victory lane with the 43 team. "It's always special to be in victory lane, but to be part of the first team to take the 43 car to victory lane in over 15 years makes it that much better," said Kile.

New Research Grants

Congratulations to the Lee College of Engineering professors who received new research and additional funding awards for January, February and March. And a special congratulations to the UNC Charlotte Motorsports Engineering faculty, Dr. Kent Day, Dr. Peter Tkacik, and Dr. Mesbah Uddin, for their research grant awards. A lift of the new awards follows.

UNCC Motorsports Safety Test

December Senior Design Expo

Mission Motorsports Visits UNC Charlotte

Military veterans from the United Kingdom and the United States toured UNC Charlotte’s Motorsports Engineering facilities on Oct. 14th as part of the Mission Motorsports program.

UNC Charlotte Motorsports Names 2013 Kulwicki Scholar

The Lee College of Engineering at UNC Charlotte has awarded its Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship to Justin LaDuke of Whitakers, North Carolina. The presentation of the 2013 scholarship will be made Friday October 11 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, prior to the running of the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.
